You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. There’s another day you might want to know about: Giving Tuesday. The idea is pretty straightforward. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, shoppers take a break from their gift-buying and donate what they can to charity. In 2015, there were a total of 1.3 million social media mentions of #GivingTuesday. It officially went viral. The campaign now runs in over 70 countries around the world including the US, Canada, Russia, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Australia and Brazil.
#GivingTuesday arrived in the UK in 2014. Since then, the day has gone on to become one of Britain’s biggest days for charities, raising millions of pounds for good causes. Every year #GivingTuesday in the UK sees an increase of about 300% on total donations and about 28% increase in new monthly donors. Do you know why people give? Cause giving means love- every time we give we release dopamine- the same hormone that controls the brain’s pleasure and makes us feel love.
This year you can feel our love at Essex too. We are running the #GiveEssex5 Campaign on the 28th November. This will be the third time Essex has participated in #GivingTuesday and we will have a range of activities (both on and offline) planned for the day. Essex is built on Philanthropy and we are passionate about using #GivingTuesday to raise awareness of our work and encourage our community to share in it. All money will go to supporting big ideas and exciting project on Click – the Essex crowdfunding platform. The professional stilts-walkers from East 15 Theatre Company StiltsPro will be joining us on the day to perform on the squares. Don’t miss them!

SHARE THE MESSAGE

We are really grateful for your support and contribution. A follow up post will be coming up soon to tell you how did the campaign go and how many projects we managed to support on Click.
