The University of Essex has received one last Christmas present, in the form of a cheque from construction firm Bouygues UK (BYUK). BYUK are currently building The Copse, our new 650 bedroom student accommodation complex, and the cheque for £1,700 is the money raised from the project team’s Christmas Raffle.
Mathias Talpaert, Construction Director for Bouygues UK, presented the cheque to our Registrar & Secretary, Bryn Morris, on-site at The Copse, followed by leading a small delegation from the University on a fascinating tour of the new student units.
Mathias said of the raffle, ‘We wanted to do something that would bring Bouygues UK’s delivery team for The Copse together with all our subcontractors on site, and at the same time raise some money for a good cause. Dion and Carolina organised a really fantastic raffle and we were delighted with the amount raised. The Click Crowdfunding Platform is a brilliant way to support students and we identify with this entrepreneurial spirit of collaboration, innovation and partnership.’
The money raised will support seven student projects with £250 each of matchfunding, given their crowdfunding campaigns the perfect kickstart.
James Martin, who heads up the Click Crowdfunding Platform, said ‘This is a really generous donation, and will make a huge difference to the work we do with Essex students on Click. We are so grateful to Bouygues UK for choosing to support us, and to everyone that took part in the raffle!’
