Spreading Kindness and Generosity at Essex

Essex Blades Dance Club and StiltsPro performing on the squares

On Tuesday 13 November we held our third annual Giving Day, which this year was themed #EssexKindness Day. We wanted to celebrate the power of good deeds, kindness and generosity, as well as raising important funds for our students crowdfunding on Click.

The day was filled with activity both on and offline. In the squares, we were treated to a specially choreographed performance by Essex Dance, as well as our friends from Stilts Pro helping to promote our cause in their own comedic way. The performance by Essex Dance was streamed live on our new Essex Philanthropy Facebook Page, and we received 779 views on our Click site, the most in a single day we have ever received.

The main focus of the day was to raise awareness of our philanthropic activity, and this was achieved very successfully. Over 1,000 leaflets were given out to students keen to hear more about our work, and numerous conversations were held with students who have ideas for Click projects. Our friends from the VTeam were also there to support the campaign and provide students with a range of volunteering opportunities for which they can sign up as part of the celebration of our #EssexKindness Day.

There was also a fundraising element to the day. We received 22 donations of £287 on our giving page, as well as three new signups to our Donate your Pennies scheme. Other highlights from the day include:

  • 468 people read our blog about the impact of Philanthropy on campus
  • The Live stream video of the flash mob was viewed by 87 people
  • 23 people used the hashtag on Twitter
  • 7 new draft projects on Click have been started in the last two days
  • 9 people used the hashtag on Instagram

Thank you to everyone that has supported us both on the day and in the lead-up. All together we proved that “Essex is founded on the principle of spreading kindness and the power of good deeds…”
